I am all about making healthy convenient. I am a firm believer that apps can help kick-start anyone into developing health patterns. I think a lot of people don’t take advantage of health apps. They are like a personal trainer/dietitian in the palm of your hands. I have compiled my favorite health apps, and yes, they are all free and available for Android and iPhone. Have your app store pulled up and get ready to download these.
If you don’t know what mindfulness is, you obviously don’t follow Oprah on social media. Basically, mindfulness is being present, leave your worries at the door and focus on what’s happening right now. One way to practice mindfulness is meditation. Yes, it sounds like a hipsterish and overrated, but it actually does help. Headspace is a guided meditation app. When you create your account, it asks questions and helps build a mediation schedule. My specialized schedule helps with anxiety and sends me a reminder to do my sessions at 8 o’clock at night.
Our mental health is just as important as our physical health. They are all related and depended on one another. If you’re stressed (being a Boss Babe is not easy) you can’t move forward with your health.
Nike Running Club
I use to run all the time. Then, I started to fall off the wagon. I downloaded this app and it’s a game changer. There are two ways to utilize this app. It can be a regular tracker while you run. What makes this different is it allows you to pick running plans. There are beginner plans or more advance options to pick from. Once, you pick a plan it creates a running schedule. All the runs in a plan are guided. I don’t know about you, but having someone in my ear saying “you can do it,” gives me a confidence boost.
I don’t even want to know what my life would be like without Eve. This period tracker app, takes annoying Aunt Flow’s monthly visit to another level. You can input your symptoms for that month’s period. What I love about this app there are various topics it has relating to women’s health. There are great quizzes and conversations that I have not found in any other period tracker app. Periods suck. Every Boss Babe gets them, so why not share our experiences? It helps ease the cramps that are pulsating through your uterus.
My Fitness Pal
This app got me through college. My Fitness Pal allows you to track your food and exercise. It gives you all the technical stuff of what you’re eating and burning up, like Macronutrients; Carbs, Fats and Protein. It’s good to have a baseline of what you’re doing to your body. Once, you have an idea it can help identify what changes you need to make with your eating habits. I don’t track every meal anymore. I do it for a couple of days to see if my diet needs some tweaking. You can’t be a Boss Babe if you’re eating poorly and not keeping up with your busy lifestyle. Sometimes we visually need to know what is in our food. Especially, when you’re dining out. Fitness Pal contains a lot of restaurants’ entrees, don’t have to fear about eating unhealthy while at a business lunch.
Nike Training Club
I am not sponsored by Nike! They just have great apps. This app doesn’t track your fitness, it gives you workouts to do. Once, you create a profile for any of the Nike apps, it’s the same throughout. You pick whatever workout you’re feeling and you have your own personal trainer for free. It’s similar to the running app and lets you pick a plan if you want and creates a schedule. Some of the plans in the running app do incorporate workouts from the training club. I am not a gym rat, I need a little push to get me, and this app makes working-out easy.
